By studying the war reports of Agustí "Gaziel" Calvet published in 1915 in La Vanguardia and collected in the book De París a Monastir, one perceives the blossoming of the journalistic style, the intellectual attitude and the professional philosophy of one of the greatest figures in Catalan journalism of all time. The principal features of the style and philosophy which formed the character of the great arbiter of public opinion of Catalonia in the 30's are already present and identifiable in these early texts, an example of modernity, narrative strength and descriptive brilliance. Gaziel as war correspondant prefigures and announces Gaziel as leader-writer who becomes, years later, the refined interpreter of Catalan and Spanish society.
